Type section: outcrops located 1.6 km southwest of Turn of the Bullfrog, below the Frog, in NE/4 SE/4 sec. 35, either in T. 32[?] or 33[?] S., R. 9 E., Mt. Pennell 2 NW [7.5-min] quadrangle, Garfield Co., UT. Named from Tarantula Mesa (Smith, 1983).
[Discrepancy in GNU records (USGS DDS-6) concerning whether type section occurs in Twp. 32 or 33. --unresolved.]
