Type area: exposures of saprolite and fresh rock along VA Route 656, southeastern corner of Brokenburg quadrangle, Spotsylvania Co., eastern VA. Named from Ta River which intersects it (Pavlides, 1980).

Piedmont-Blue Ridge province*
