Type locality: in northwestern part of Black Rock Range, in SW/4 NW/4 sec. 35, T. 43 N., R. 26 E., [approx. Lat. 41 deg. 36 min. 15 sec. N., Long. 118 deg. 59 min. 15 sec. W.], Idaho Canyon 15-min quadrangle, Charles Sheldon Antelope Range and Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge, Humboldt Co., northwestern NV. Named from exposures in vicinity of Summit Lake, in adjacent Rock Spring Table 15-min quadrangle, Humboldt Co., northwestern NV (Noble and others, 1970).
