Type locality: in and near east portion of SE/4 sec. 31, T. 5 S., R. 6 E., on northeast side of Oscura Mountains, Socorro Co., central NM. Named from Story Tank, about 3 mi west of west-central front of Oscura Mountains (Thompson, 1942).
