Type section (subsurface): Savannah River Site well P 21TA, [UTM] 24,675 N.; 40,739 E., at approx. Lat. 33 deg. 09 min. 28 sec. N., Long. 81 deg. 35 min. 25 sec. W., Barnwell Co., SC. Named from Steel Creek, a tributary to the Savannah, about 2.4 mi west of the well (Fallaw and Price, 1992).
