Along Summit road, 500 m northeast of Telegraph Pass, on main ridge of mountains. Named from South Mountains, Maricopa Co., AZ (Reynolds, 1985).
Reference localities designated in Maricopa Co., AZ: (1) east flank Dobbins Lookout, in sec. 16, T. 1 S., R. 3 E.; (2) roadcuts in center SW/4 sec. 16, T. 1 S., R. 3 E.; and (3) cuts along first 100 m of Hidden Valley Trail, in SE/4 NW/4 sec. 15, T. 1 S., R. 3 E.
