Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: at Fitterer Ranch in west face of a north-trending ridge, in NW/4 SW/4 NE/4 sec. 7, T. 137 N., R. 97 W., 12 air mi southeast of town of South Heart and 0.5 mi northeast of section given by Stone (1973) for his informal "South Heart member," Stark Co., southwestern ND. Named from town of South Heart (Murphy and others, 1993).
