Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:
Mulberry Grove section of Jacobs and Lineback (1969, p. 21), in borrow pits east of Mulberry Grove along U.S. Highway I-70, in SW/4 SW/4 sec. 31, T. 6 N., R. 1 W., Fayette Co., south-central IL. Named from town of Smithboro, Bond Co., 5 mi west of type locality (Jacobs and Lineback, 1969; Willman and Frye, 1970).
