Type area: in T. 42 N., R. 1 W. Named from exposures in drainage basins of Rat Creek, Miners Creek, and Shallow Creek, 2 to 4.5 mi west of Creede, Mineral Co., southwestern CO (Steven and Ratte, 1964).

San Juan Mountains province*
