Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: upper half of sheer canyon wall at mouth of Santa Elena Canyon, Big Bend National Park, Brewster Co., TX. Formation also caps most of Mesa de Anguila and Mariscal and Christmas Mountains and is widely distributed in the Sierra del Carmen (Maxwell and others, 1967).
