Type locality: along Route 2 from the intersection with Route 417 (Puerto Rico Meter Grid System 75,700 E.; 59,600 N.) to the intersection with Route 402 (75,900 E.; 52,100 N.), Rincon quadrangle, northwestern Puerto Rico (McIntyre and others, 1970).
Named from exposures in Rio Culebrinas Valley, Lares district, northwestern Puerto Rico (US geologic names lexicon, USGS Bull. 1200).
