Type section: west of Mt. Powell, in sec. 9, T. 14 N., R. 13 W., western part of Thoreau quadrangle, McKinley Co., NM. Named from exposures along cliffs north of U.S. Highway 66, north of Prewitt, McKinley Co., NM (Smith, 1954).
