Type locality (subsurface): Consolidated Coal Company drillhole 91, in SW/4 SW/4 NE/4 NE/4 sec. 21, T. 8 S., R. 3 E., West Frankfort 15-min quadrangle, Williamson Co., southeastern IL. Named from Pond Creek which flows through northern part of twp. (Kosanke and others, 1960).
