GROUP STATUS (alphabetical): Hedges Shale (WV*), Knapp Formation (NY), Pinkerton Sandstone (WV*), Purslane Sandstone (MD*,WV*), Rockwell Formation (MD*,WV*).

FORMATION STATUS --all in PA: Beckville Member*, Benezette Limestone Member (local)*, Griswold Gap Member*, Mount Carbon Member, Spechty Kopf Member.


Geologic age:

Early Mississippian (Tournaisian; Kinderhookian to early Osagean)*


Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Not designated. Later workers assume type area to be in Pocono Mountains, northeastern PA.

Appalachian basin*
