Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: Exposures along the Hiwassee River, south of the Murphy Medical Center, starting approximately 400 m south of McComb Branch and continuing past Peachtree Creek, 7 km east of Murphy, NC (Thompson and Tull, 1991) Named from Peachtree Creek which flows into the Hiwassee River near the highest stratigraphic portion of the formation (Tull and others, 1991).


AAPG geologic province:

Piedmont-Blue Ridge province
