Named from Panamint Springs on CA State Highway 190 at northeast base of Argus Range, [in sec. 30, T. 18 S., R. 42 E., Panamint Springs 7.5-min quadrangle], Inyo Co., eastern CA (Stone and others, 1987).
Reference section: in S/2 sec. 10, T. 19 S., R. 41 E., Darwin 15-min quadrangle, Inyo Co., eastern CA (Stone and others, 1987).
