Type section: west side of Sheepeater Canyon, 3,200 ft almost due north of Osprey Falls and just east of closest approach in this vicinity of Bunsen Peak Road to rim of canyon, [approx. Lat. 44 deg. 56 min. 15 sec. N., Long. 110 deg. 40 min. 56 sec. W., Mammoth 15-min quadrangle (1962 ed.), Park Co.], Yellowstone National Park, northwestern WY. Named from Osprey Falls (Pierce and others, 1970; see also U.S. Geological Survey, 1972, USGS Misc. Geol. Inv. Map I-711, scale 1:125,000).
