Geologic age:

late Silurian to Early Devonian


Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section (composite): upper part exposed in abandoned New York, Ontario, and Western RR cut; lower part on east bank of old limonite pit of Townsend iron mine near Orrs Mills, 4 mi west of Cornwall, NY (Barnett, 1970).


AAPG geologic province:

Appalachian basin
