late Tertiary (middle to late Miocene; Clarendonian NALMA)


Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type locality: triangular area bounded on the east by Ojo Caliente River; on the southwest by Chama River; and on the west by El Rito Creek, Rio Arriba Co., north-central NM. Named from the Ojo Caliente River (Galusha and Blick, 1971).


AAPG geologic province:

San Juan basin
