Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section (composite; subsurface): two cores near the bank of a farm pond, approx. 3.1 mi northwest of Moultrie, Colquitt Co., GA. Upper part of the formation occurs from 606 ft to T.D. at 790 ft in Colquitt 5 core (GGS-3199); lower part occurs from 790 ft to 976 ft in Colquitt 9 core (GGS-3535). Named from Ochlockonee River, 1 mi southwest of the type locality (Huddlestun, 1993).
