Type section: NE/4 SE/4 sec. 20 and SW/4 NW/4 sec. 21, T. 10 N., R. 5 W., Valencia Co., NM. Named from exposures on sides of small mesas, west of Oak Canyon, 4-5 mi northeast of Laguna, Valencia Co., NM (Landis and others, 1973).
