Type area: Nicholas Co., KY; typically exposed between Pleasant Valley and Millersburg, KY. Named from Nicholas Co., KY, where it is fully developed southwest of Pleasant Valley (Foerste, 1909). [From GNU records (USGS DDS-6; Reston GNULEX) and US geologic names lexicon (USGS Bull. 896)].
