Type exposure: in gully along Whitebreast Creek, in NW/4 NE/4 NE/4 sec. 8, T. 73 N., R. 22 W., Lucas Co., IA. Named from Mouse Creek, 5 mi to west-northwest. (Ravn and others, 1984).
