Morton Limestone of Wabaunsee Group (NE-recognized locally in Otoe and Pawnee Cos.)


Geologic age:

Late Pennsylvanian (Virgilian)


Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Named from outcrops at Morton stockyards in south Table Creek Valley, southwest of Nebraska City, Otoe Co., southeastern NE. Extends from near Thurman, southwestern IA, to northeastern KS but not as far as Kansas River Valley (Condra and Reed, 1943; Condra, 1949).
