Type section: north-trending ravine in SW/4 NW/4 NW/4 sec. 27, T. 10 S., R. 6 E., Harrisburg quadrangle, Saline Co., southern IL. Named from village of Mitchellsville, about 6 mi south of Harrisburg (Nelson and others, 1991).
