Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Along Clements-Camanche Road about 1.75 mi east of the Mehrten dam site, in NE/4 SW/4 sec. 5, T. 4 N., R. 9 E., San Joaquin Co., west-central CA. Named from exposures in bluffs along Mokelumne River near Mehrten dam site, which is about 3.5 mi upstream from Clements bridge (Piper and others, 1939).
