Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type area: southwest of Marsland, along Niobrara River, in secs. 23 to 27, T. 28 N., R. 52 W., and secs. 19 and 30, T. 28 N., R. 51 W., Box Butte Co., northwestern NE (Schultz, 1938).
[Principal reference section] = "upper Harrison" beds of Peterson, 1906: from Spoon Butte, in secs. 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, and 15, T. 27 N., R. 60 W., Goshen Co., eastern WY, approx. northward to "Squaw Butte" and Squaw Creek. "Squaw Butte" is one of those names used by research workers but by no one else. The local ranchers call this landmark Coliseum Butte. Located in sec. 15, T. 33 N., R. 57 W., Sioux Co., northwestern NE, about 1.5 mi east of WY State line at head of Squaw Creek (see McKenna, 1965, p. 9, footnote 4; Skinner and others, 1977, fig. 1).
