Named from exposures at Marianna, Jackson Co., FL, east edge of town, where the rock is quarried (US geologic names lexicon, USGS Bull. 896, p. 1298).
West bank of the Chipola River near the US 90 Highway bridge on the east side of Marianna, in SE/4 sec. 3, T. 4 N., R. 10 W., Jackson Co., FL (Huddlestun, 1993).
