Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: Exposures at west end of gap 1.6 mi east of Lower Rociada, San Miguel Co., where Manuelitas Creek (from which probably named) flows eastward from the Rociada Valley into a narrow canyon, on a hill north of Manuelitas Creek about 500 ft north of the Co Road (Baltz, Read, 1960).
