Type section: from SE/4 NW/4 to SW/4 NE/4 sec. 10, T. 16 N., R. 80 W, Carbon Co., WY. Origin of name not stated by authors, but probably named from Magnolia Lake, Carbon Co., WY (Karlstrom and Houston, 1979).
Reference section [incomplete]: 656+ ft thick exposure east of Stamp Mill Lake, in NW/4 SW/4 sec. 15 and NE/4 SE/4 sec. 16, T. 16 N., R. 80 W. (Karlstrom and Houston, 1979).
