Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type locality and stratotype: excellent exposure in cutbank on west side of Lost Branch, near center NE/4 NE/4 NE/4 sec. 10, T. 33 S., R. 18 E., just southwest of Mound Valley, Mound Valley 7.5-min quadrangle, Labette Co., southeastern KS; composite stratotype with sections of higher strata from west highbank of Pumpkin Creek (as well as selected ravine and gullies) along east line of SW/4 SW/4 NE/4 sec. 10, T. 33 S.,R. 18 E., which are 1 mi (1.6 km) southwest of Mound Valley, Mound Valley 7.5-min quadrangle, Labette Co., southeastern KS. Origin of name not stated by author, but probably named from Lost Branch, a tributary of Pumpkin Creek (Heckel, 1991).
