Long Mountain Formation of /Wichita Granite Group (OK-recognized locally in western Wichita igneous province, Wichita Mountains area)

[Wichita Granite Group preempted by Wichita [Group] by Cummins (1890) in TX. A group name combines a geographic name with the term "group," and no lithic designation is included (ACSN, 1961, 1970; NACSN, 1983, 2005, 2021).]

Middle Cambrian


Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Occurs in and around Long Mountain, 4 mi west of Snyder, in sec. 8, T. 2 N., R. 17 W. and sec. 13, T. 2 N., R. 18 W., Kiowa Co., OK. Origin of name not stated by authors, but probably named from Long Mountain, near Snyder, Kiowa Co., OK (Myers and others, 1981, who credit Hessa, 1964, unpub. thesis).
