Type section: measured in northern Bear Mountain, in secs. 27 and 34, T. 2 N., R. 5 W., 3 to 3.5 mi south-southwest of La Jara Peak, Puertecito quadrangle, Socorro Co., central NM. Named from La Jara Peak in secs. 11 and 14, T. 2 N., R. 5 W. (Tonking, 1957).
