Type section: [south of River Falls] in stream embankment about 400 m north of County Trunk Highway FF, in SE/4 SW/4 SW/4 sec. 12, T. 27 N., R. 19 W., [approx. Lat. 44 deg. 50 min. 03 sec. N., Long. 92 deg. 38 min. 09 sec. W.], River Falls West 7.5-min quadrangle, Pierce Co., western WI (Mickelson and others, 1984; Syverson and others, 2011).
Named from the Kinnickinnic River, western St. Croix and Pierce Cos., terminating in the St. Croix River, 6 mi (10 km) north of Prescott (Mickelson and others, 1984; Syverson and others, 2011).
Reference section: east bank of tributary to Kinnickinnic River, about 500 m north of County Trunk Highway FF, in SW/4 NW/4 sec. 15, T. 27 N., R. 19 W., [approx. Lat. 44 deg. 49 min. 48 sec. N., Long. 92 deg. 40 min. 48 sec. W.], River Falls West 7.5-min quadrangle, Pierce Co., western WI (Mickelson and others, 1984; Syverson and others, 2011).
