Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type locality: exposures east of Stull, 9+/- mi due west of Lawrence, KS (Moore, 1936).
Named for fact it forms a large part of surface of Kanwaka Twp., Douglas Co., eastern KS (Beede, 1902; name credited to G.I. Adams).
