Named from exposures east of village of Juana Diaz and along the Rio Jacaguas to west, [Rio Descalabrado and Ponce quadrangles], south-central Puerto Rico (US geologic names lexicon, USGS Bull. 1200).
Reference localities: right bank of Rio Jacaguas just above concrete bridge on secondary road 1.4 km west-northwest of the plaza in Juana Diaz; high cliff on the right bank of Rio Jacaguas 2 km west-southwest of Juana Diaz, Ponce quadrangle, south-central Puerto Rico (Monroe, 1973).
