Type section: along Hunter Wash, in secs. 23 through 28, 33, and 34, T. 24 N., R. 13 W., and in secs. 8, 9, and 16 through 20, T. 24 N., R.12 W. (=Reeside's Section 15, USGS Prof. Paper 134, pl. 2, 1924), San Juan Co., northwestern NM. Named from local wash rather than from the local Hunter Wash paleontological fauna (as proposed by Clemens, 1973) (Hunt and Lucas, 1992).
