Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Named from Hughes Gap, Mineral Bluff quadrangle, Fannin Co., central northern GA, where an almost complete section is exposed. Formation crops out in a belt that enters Mineral Bluff quadrangle near Franklin Mountain, NC, and leaves the quadrangle in vicinity of Gravelly Gap, GA (Hurst, 1955).
