Type section: exposure in quarry, [about 0.25 mi west of Sherwood and 1.5+/- mi east of Lake Winnebago], in SW/4 SE/4 sec. 30, T. 20 N., R. 19 E., [approx. Lat. 44 deg. 10 min. 14 sec. N., Long. 88 deg. 16 min. 14 sec. W.], Sherwood 7.5-min quadrangle, Calumet Co., eastern WI. Named from High Cliff State Park, Calumet Co., eastern WI; name credited to Betty J. Socha (Syverson and others, 2011).
Reference sections (subsurface): drillholes B23, B24, MW29D, and MW30C, in NE/4 sec. 23, T. 19 N., R. 19 E., [in vicinity of Lat. 44 deg. 06 min. 20 sec. N., Long. 88 deg. 11 min. 28 sec. W.], Chilton 7.5-min quadrangle, Calumet Co., eastern WI (Syverson and others, 2011).
