Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: small abandoned quarry near the hill top approximately 200 m north of U.S. Highway 64 and Cherokee County Road 1531 intersection, approximately 1.5 km west of the Murphy Medical Center, Cherokee Co., NC (Thompson and Tull, 1991).
Named from flood plain of the Hiwassee River (southern bank) near the confluence with Peachtree Creek, approximately 0.5 km south of the type section (Tull and others, 1991).

Piedmont-Blue Ridge province
