Surveys, and the USGS (rules suspended).]

Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Named after exposures described by Ross (1978, Univ. Idaho PhD thesis) on Grouse Creek in Troy basin area of northeastern OR (see Reidel and others, 1989).
Reference locality: Grouse Creek on north side of Grande Ronde River, [btw. SE/4 sec. 31, T. 7 N., R. 43 E., Saddle Butte 7.5-min quadrangle, Asotin Co., southeastern WA, and NE/4 sec. 23, T. 6 N., R. 43 E., Troy 7.5-min quadrangle, Wallowa Co., northeastern OR] (Reidel and others, 1989).
