Named from exposures at Garrett Mill, on Eagle Creek [now Big Eagle Creek], 3 mi north-northeast of Livingston, [approx. Lat. 36 deg. 25 min. 33 sec. N., Long. 85 deg. 17 min. 50 sec. Livingston 7.5-min quadrangle], Overton Co., northern central TN (Butts, 1922).
