Type section: Macasphalt Shell Pit, 5 mi east of Sarasota, in secs. 1 and 12, T. 36 S., R. 18 E., Bee Ridge 7.5-min quadrangle, Sarasota Co., FL. Shelly beds in measured section (fig. 4) on west side of pit are designated the stratotype (Waldrop and Wilson, 1990).
