Type section: west side Kessler Peak, from hill 6231, north across Rogers Canyon and up ridge across center of sec. 31, T. 1 S., R. 3 W., Tooele Co., UT. Named from Erda siding, Union Pacific Railroad, west of mouth of Bates Canyon, Tooele Co., UT (Tooker and Roberts, 1970).
