Type locality (loc. X): in an abandoned train tunnel just south of pinnacle named Elephant Rock, about 4 km northeast of town of Buena Vista, in NE/4 sec. 31, T. 13 S., R. 78 W., Lat. 38 deg. 52 min. 38 sec. N., Long. 106 deg. 08 min. 44 sec. W., Harvard Lakes 7.5-min quadrangle, Chaffee Co., central CO. Named from Elephant Rock (Kellogg and others, 2017, USGS Sci. Inv. Map SIM-3382, scale 1:50,000, p. 54).
