Type section: Escarpado Canyon, [6 mi south of Moreno Gulch and 2 mi north of Panoche Creek, Panoche Hills], in secs. 7 and 8, T. 15 S., R. 12 E., Chounet Ranch 7.5-min quadrangle, Fresno Co., southern CA (Payne, 1951; Bartow, 1996).
Named from town of Dos Palos (Payne, 1951).
