Type locality: along Brush Creek, in secs. 6 and 8, T. 9 N., R. 2 E., [southeastern corner Galesburg 15-min quadrangle], Knox Co., western IL. Named from village of DeLong [De Long?] about 1.5 mi northeast of type outcrop, [De Long 7.5-min quadrangle, Knox Co., western IL] (Kosanke and others, 1960).
