Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: about 1 mi north of Crystal Peak, in N/2 sec. 29, T. 23 S., R. 16 W., [Middle Mountain 7.5-min quadrangle], Millard Co., UT. Named from exposures in the Crystal Peak section, 10 mi southwest of Smooth Canyon, Millard Co., western UT (Webb, 1956; Hintze, 1974).
