Type section: head of Congress Canyon, [in W/2 sec. 16, T. 30 N., R. 34 E.], northern Humboldt Range, [Pershing Co., NV]. Named from unbedded cliff-like exposure of limestone at head of Congress Canyon, northern Humboldt Range, NV (Nichols and Silberling, 1977).
