Named from exposures near Colgate Station on the Northern Pacific RR, in T. 15 N., R. 55 E., Dawson Co., eastern MT (Calvert, 1912).
Typically developed btw. Colgate Station and Glendive, [Glendive quadrangle (scale 1:250,000), 1909 ed.], Dawson Co., eastern MT (Thom and Dobbin, 1924).
